Melero, Lieutenant Governor
My name is Sarah Melero, a senior at North Little Rock High School West Campus. I am a student in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program and I take multiple art classes. In my free time I dive into art. I paint, sculpt, and draw. I’ll be going to Hendrix College over the summer for Arkansas Governor’s School focusing on visual arts. Music and art are a major part of my life, but I had to make room for more when I found out about Key Club.
I wanted to be Lieutenant Governor because I truly love Key Club. I joined in my freshman year because a friend of mine, former Lieutenant Governor Chris Marshall, said it’d be something I’d enjoy. He was right. I volunteered my time before I even joined Key Club, so it was an easy step into service projects we had. Some of my goals for my division are to activate as many clubs as I can and increase the number of clubs that attend District Leadership Conference.
My favorite service project over the years is delivering Thanksgiving Day Baskets with our local Kiwanis Club. A moment that will stay with me forever happened on that day. It was the fourth family our group had visited. We had driven around the block a few times because the numbers on the houses had worn away. As I carried the box up to the door, a woman opened the door wide and welcomed me into her home. She pointed to a small empty table, which was the only piece of furniture in the room besides a coach, and I placed the box of food on it. She just reached over and pulled me into a kind warm hug. I was not expecting anything of the sort. That one moment made the project so much more meaningful to me.
